Development
of Teachers
The development of teacher skills is based on
21st century learning, encouraging the use of technology and encouraging
students to practice self-efficacy. All
teachers have to make a contribution and report it to be monitored by
government officials for review.
D.
Student
Affairs
The school's activities are diverse. Every Monday morning, all students have to perform a ceremony, in front of the flag, named “Upacara Bendera”. Students stand in line and show respect for the nation while singing the national anthem, flags and vows, with leaders in front of the line to tell the commands.
Sport days are organized according to the needs
of the students such as football and badminton. These activities are on
Saturday as there are no lessons, but there are activities that students are interested
in such as sport, dance, singing and special English lessons and more.

1.3
Teaching system
Lessons are held on Monday to
Friday, from 7.00 am. Students participate in the morning ceremony every Monday,
and take classes on Monday- Friday. There are 4 classes per day for teacher and
students. The
first class is started at 7.00 am until the first break at 11.55 am, this is the time
that students have lunch. After lunch break, they will start the afternoon
session at 12.35 pm until 3.00 pm.

1.5
Measurement and evaluation system
Teacher
usually tests all students after class by worksheet or question.
In
1 semester, students have to study about 2 months and 2 weeks and then they
have a midterm exam. Before the final examination they have to study another 2
months and 2 weeks.
The exam contains multiple choice
questions and a writing test. Measurement and evaluation is focused on the
standards in the curriculum and they are very important in the planning process
for lesson plans. Every teacher needs to
create a rubric as a basis for measuring all students. Most student points will focus on
midterm and final exams. Work sheets after class are just for revision and to
re-enforce the learning for the students.
1.6
Curriculum
The curriculum of this school is based on the
Indonesian core curriculum. They focus on foreign language and sport that
student are interested in and curriculum is referenced to a school lesson plan.
The curriculum in Indonesia and Thailand are slightly different but focus on
the measurement and assessment and the 21st century skills.

The teacher presents the elements labeled, their names and their properties.
Content
Chemical elements ordered by increasing atomic number. The names
and element symbols are provided. Each element has a one or two letter
symbol, which is an abbreviated form of its present or old name. The element
number is its atomic number, which is the number of protons in each of its
atoms.
1. Gold is a chemical element with
symbol Au (from Latin: aurum) and atomic number 79, making it one
of the higher atomic number elements that occur naturally. In its
purest form, it is a bright, slightly reddish yellow, dense, soft, malleable,
and ductile metal.
2.Hydrogen is the smallest chemical element because
it consists of only one proton in its nucleus. Its symbol is H, and its
atomic number is 1. It has an average atomic weight of 1.0079 amu, making it
the lightest element.
3. Fluorine is an univalent poisonous
gaseous halogen, it is pale yellow-green and it is the most chemically
reactive and electronegative of all the elements.
4. Carbon has several allotropes, or different
forms in which it can exist. These allotropes include graphite and diamond,
which have very different properties. Despite carbon's ability
to make 4 bonds and its presence in many compounds, it is highly unreactive
under normal conditions.
5. Sodium symbol: Na, atomic number: 11 and
atomic weight 22,9898. It's a soft metal, reactive and with a low melting
point, with a relative density of 0,97 at 20ºC (68ºF). From the commercial
point of view, sodium is the most important of all the alkaline
metals.
6. Sulfur is a yellow crystalline solid.
In nature it occurs as the pure element or as sulfide and
sulfate minerals. Although sulfur is infamous for its smell,
frequently compare to rotten eggs, that odor is actually characteristic of
hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
7. Neon glows when a high electrical voltage
is passed through it. Neon does not form compounds with other
substances and is odorless. Neon is the fourth most
abundant element in the universe, and the fifth most abundant gas
in air. It is obtained from air by distillation of liquid air. Neon: Ne.
8. Nitrogen is a
chemical element with symbol N and atomic number 7.
Elemental nitrogen is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and mostly
inert diatomic gas at standard conditions, constituting 78.09 percent of Earth's
atmosphere by volume.
9. Mercury: chemical properties. Like
cadmium, zinc and lead, mercury is a naturally
occurring element known as a "heavy metal" and can be
toxic to living organisms. ...Mercury's atomic number is 80.
10. Oxygen. Chemical Properties of Oxygen.
At standard temperature and pressure (STP), two atoms of
the element bind to form dioxide, a colorless, odorless, tasteless
diatomic gas with the formula O2. Oxygenis a member of the
chalogen group on the periodic table and is a highly reactive
nonmetallic element.

Pedagogical
Contents
2.1
Teaching methods
The teacher introduces the topic that students have
to learn today and asks them some questions to motivate them. Then the teacher shows
them a video about the lesson and pauses the video occasionally to explain more
about the topic. After watching the video students have to do worksheet in
groups, they can search the internet or books to find the answer on the worksheet.
The teacher walks around the class to help and recommends to students where to find
answers on the worksheet. Teachers would
generally not give students homework. Students have to finish worksheet after
class.
2.2 Using
materials and innovation
Most classrooms have a projector, white
board and wireless accessories. Teacher can uses Electronic media for teaching
such as video, play games and explains about difficult lessons as media or
picture. If teacher can use real media they will. Teacher has a worksheet after
class for students.
2.3 Sources of
learning and technology
Students
can search the data at library room and they can find many books because books
were classified by subject and topic. They usually surf the internet for
learning as Google classroom of school. There are many computer rooms to surf
the internet and learn about technology.
2.4 Authentic
assignment
There are many
authentic assignments to evaluate them. Firstly,
after the students have finished studying their lesson in the class, the
teacher always gives them a quiz to test. After that when they study in their
class for 2 months and 2 weeks, they have to do a midterm-examination. Then
after another 2 months and 2 weeks they will have their final examination.
2.5 Others
After class they will
pay respect to their teacher called Salim(Salaman), they always respect the
leader of the room.
Unit

Teaching Plan
3.1
Curriculum analysis
The school
curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of Indonesia, focusing on the
21st century skills of both students and teachers. Each lesson plan must be
prepared in accordance with the curriculum of the school as a guideline for the
organization of the learning and assessment process. The Indonesian curriculum
is much the same as Thailand’s curriculum because they focus on the measurement
and evaluation of learning of students.
3.2
Teaching plan related to your major
The teachers teaching
plan at this school is that they have to make the lesson plans first for
instructional planning, learning objectives, learning activities, how to
measure and evaluate the content and the scope of instruction based on the
school curriculum.
Teachers will
prepare a variety of teaching styles to suit different learners and try to use
technology for teaching. Before teaching, a teacher has to make sure that the
teaching and learning materials are in good condition and that safety
equipment is available for students, for example for doing science in general
science subject.
Unit
4
Observation on teachers
4.1
Planning for teaching
Teachers must make the lesson plan first and then
select the instructional activity to match the content in the lesson. Teachers
have to organize their learning activities so that students will be interested
in lesson. They also use electronic media for teaching, such as videos that
match the lesson content and using mobile phones to enter classes in the Google
Classroom. In the 21st century, technology is growing rapidly, and teachers
need to create innovations in learning styles and strategies for teaching students
to understand the lessons that they teach. Teachers always prepare themselves
before taking a class to make sure about their lesson contents and equipment
that they have to use in class are read and available to use and in working
order.
4.2
Preparing lessons and materials
The teachers need to have an understanding of the lesson
contents as well as the students backgrounds. Teachers have to complete the lesson plan which needs to be
inspected by the Director.
Teachers use
teaching strategy, teaching plans and must know what equipment to use for
teaching their lessons. Teaching aides and equipment are usually available at
the school or maybe it can be self-made or can be purchased cheaply by the
teacher.
Most teachers use
the existing ICT equipment which is available in nearly every room. They have
to do complete a work sheet before a class if they want to test their students
after class.
4.3
Teaching in class
The first day of
observation was 9th August 2018, class 7F, general science subject.
I had the opportunity to observe teaching with teacher Sri. I began class at 07.50am and I had introduced
myself in the front of class. Teacher Sri spoke about the lesson today in
Indonesian language and check who absent. She then opened the video about
science equipment for all student and she was occasionally stopped the video to
explain more about science equipment. After watching the video she divided her
students into 5 groups to do the next activity. She gave them a worksheet about
the lesson and asked them to complete the worksheet. Students are able to
search the answer from books or surf the internet on their phones. It is good
to use phone to help to find the answer. While students are doing the worksheet
the teacher walks around the room for observe their performance and help some
groups that had a problem. I walked
around the room to take photos and to observe how the teacher guides her
students to find the answer. They finish class at 09.15 am and go to next
class. Teacher Sri using the video to explain was good strategy because
students were interested in the video and they had the worksheet for review to
re-enforce their understanding after class. The teacher usually does not give
them homework.
4.4
Measurement and Evaluation
The teacher always gives them a quiz to test before
or after class. She has a worksheet to review students understanding of what
she taught them. She scored points to her students in groups or as individual
students. She scored the students by using rubric as her lesson plan for normative.
Most of point is focused to midterm examination and final examination. Midterm
is after students study for 2 months and 2 weeks from open semester and final
exam will be after midterm 2 months and 2 weeks.
Unit
5
Teaching practice
I had many
opportunities for teaching practice in class, around 20 hours. I would like to report and explain about my teaching
system, procedures, activity, problem and how to solve problems for one class.
I
would like to report on class 7C, general science, on 27 August 2018
This is the first time for me to practice teach a
class. I started teaching at 07.55am, class 7C, Elements and Metals topic. I
was very excited because my mentor teacher and supervisor from UNM University
came to evaluate me. I taught contents that are not too difficult because it is
general science.
5.1
Procedures of teaching
1.1.1
Warm-Up
Stage
I started warm up
into the lesson by greeting students in English and Indonesian language. Next I
checked the class roll using the Plicker application which is different from
what their usual teacher does everyday. I checked who was
absent by using Plicker application, I had a barcodes to give all the students and
there are numbers on those papers which are linked to their names on the class
roll. I could check the class roll within two minutes by letting the students
show their barcodes which I had to scanned and the information was sent to my
laptop. All the students were excited
about the new method of checking the class roll and their attention was focused
towards my teaching.
I then began the lesson on elements and metals, with
pictures of elements and element symbols.
I asked questions to students “what can you see in the picture?” Some
students could answer, but most do not know the element symbol. I then explained
more and continued to teach the lesson.
I asked questions to students “what can you see in the picture?
Students gave me an answer from picture.
Check the class roll by using barcode..

1.1.2.
Presentation
Stage
I continued teaching the elements and metals lesson by
showing and explaining with a Power Point presentation. Before showing the
Power Point I gave the students some questions, such as “What is the most
dangerous element?”, “What is your favorite element? Why do you like it?”, “What is the
most import ant element for you?” and I asked them to find the answer from my
teaching and Power Point. I used many
pictures to explain the lesson which made it easier for them to understand and I
chose an interesting video about elements and metals to watch. After I explained
the lesson I asked them about the questions and let them answer and I observed
their performances and checked who did not understand.
I let the students to do the worksheet about

teaching time in accordance with the lesson plans. And received praise from
teachers and mentors who came to evaluated me. My activities were very
interesting and helped me to gain and hold the students attention during my
lesson.
5.3
Problem-solving
There
are some problems that I found in this practicum as follows:
1. I didn’t explain instructions in
some activities clearly such as how to use barcode and I spoke too fast.
2.
I could not scan some student’s barcode because they touched the bar code while
scanning.
So, in the next class, these were
solved by explaining how to use the barcode and speaking slowly and clearly.

Summary and Suggestions
6.1
Purposes of practicum
This
lesson is focused on identifying skills and identifying element properties, so
the lesson plan has to be created as below:
1. Students are able to identify the properties of elements labeled. (K)
1. Students are able to identify the properties of elements labeled. (K)
2.
Students can match element names with elements labeled. (P)
3.

Procedures of practicum
1.1.1
Warm-Up
I
then began the lesson on elements and metals, with pictures of elements and
element symbols. I asked questions to
students “what can you see in the picture?” Some students could answer, but
most do not know the element symbol. I then explained more and continued to
teach the lesson.
1.1.2.
Presentation
Stage
I continued teaching
the elements and metals lesson by showing and explaining with a Power Point
presentation. Before showing the Power Point I gave the students some
questions, such as “What is the most dangerous element?”, “What is your
favorite element? Why do you like it?”, “What is the most import ant element
for you?” and I asked them to find the answer from my teaching and Power
Point. I used many pictures to explain
the lesson which made it easier for them to understand and I chose an
interesting video about elements and metals to watch. After I explained the
lesson I asked them about the questions and let them answer and I observed
their performances and checked who did not understand.
Then I had a game to play on the Plicker application using the
barcode that I gave them when the class began.
I showed the question on the projector and students could answer by
showing their barcode which I scanned. It was a good strategy for class
management because students love to play a game and they did something new,
this appealed to them and they all paid attention to my lesson. Next I showed
their points on the projector and gave some rewards from Thailand to students
who got the most points.
1.1.3.
Practice
Stage
I asked the students to do the worksheet about
elements and metals and I walked around the class to observe their performance
and help them with difficult questions.

then I gave them some rewards from Thailand. Next I gave Thai name for them
all.
6.3
Outcomes of practicum
Finally, the students completed the worksheet activity
that followed the lesson. They achieved good results, for example, most
students could identify properties of elements and metals and they could tell me
the name of elements labeled. Furthermore,
they could tell what their favorite elements are and explained their reasons
and name what was the most important element for them. They could use barcodes to
answer the question and were more interested on science. In addition, they
learned to use technology in class and were encouraged to focus more on
technology.
6.4
The challenges of practicum
This was the first time I have taught science in
English. I was very excited and nervous about how to teach students and make it
easy to understanding in my lesson. I
was nervous because my mentor came to join the class and to observe and
evaluate me in every class and suggested how to solve my problems.
6.5
Overall impression
I love this school very much because the teachers
are very kind for me. My mentor help me with many things about teaching, how to
find materials and came to evaluate me in every class. Students are so adorable
and paid attention in my class. I had many experiences from teaching practice
and improved my English skills.
6.6
Suggestions for future improvement
I want to try new
experiences and do new things and when I joined the SEA Teacher project I gained a precious
experience and improved teaching and English language skills.
My first suggestion
for future improvement is English language, it is very important to develop myself
in many skills and important for communication. We have to pay attention to the
English language if we want to go into the global society, for example, I could
not join this project if I am not good at English.
Second, don’t be shy
and nervous when you teach in class because if you are worried and stressful,
the students can get bored and feel what you feel in the class and this will make
class management very difficult. You have to know the characteristics of the
students background and how different it can be, so you can create a variety of
teaching methods for different students.
Third, lesson plan is
very important, you have to plan how to teach in class and create activities
that link with the lesson. You have to know what assessment method to use to
evaluate students. The most important lesson plan is the objective of learning.
You should have purpose of all three aspects as Cognitive Domain, Psychomotor
Domain and Affective Domain.
Fourth, you should use technology as
learning management in your class. It is very good to encourage students to use
technology for learning, it is an excellent resource for learning and is
constantly updated to meet changing needs.
Sixth, everyone has problems and you have
to learn how to solve these problems and improve yourself more and more, you
will be better every day and clutch every opportunity that comes to your life.
I am very glad to join this project, to
meet new friends and have new experiences and opportunities. Thank you to SEA
Teacher Project.

The third week of staying in Indonesia.
It's my week of
teaching. I have taught students Grade7. Most 20 hours throughout the week in
general science, topics on Acid and Base and Elements and Metals. Before
teaching, I had to make a lesson plan to send to the teacher for check the
accuracy. Then the lesson plan has been corrected. I need to be prepared how to
teach to prepare the media and Plicker program used to play games and check student’s
names. My teaching is smoothly, all my children were attentive to study and
work as I had given worksheet for them. It was very good that the Plicker
program was used in the classroom because it could draw the attention of every
student into my teaching. I brought a souvenir from Chiang Mai, Thailand to give
the students who got the highest score and the brave students. I was very happy
to teach the students, it was a great experience and it was important for me to
improve my teaching. Thanks to the mentor teacher that took care of every hour
of teaching and helped to explained the difficult content to the students. This
week was my most important week in this project. I have developed myself in
both English language and teaching skills, including classroom management
skills and time management. It made me want to be a teacher more.
